In 2006, the Tamagawa University College of Agriculture, Department of Bio-Environmental System launched its Canadian Program after taking over the Bio-Environmental Information course that originally started in 2003. It is mandatory for students who are in the department to come to Canada, and to one of Tamagawa University's sister schools, Vancouver Island University(VIU) for the program. Students enroll in the 4-month program that is custom designed by collaborative work between Tamagawa and VIU.
The program offers all-English instructions and lectures in classes such as Plant ID and Plant propagation. The students also take the ESL program that is customized for the Tamagawa students, and its contents are based on Environmental topics.
With the assistance of VIU's Homestay department, the students live with local families for a chance to experience more of the Canadian culture and make use of their English skills.
