The young Japanese students from Tamagawa Middle Division have been frequent visitors to Vancouver Island since 1984.
As part of the school's international Education Programs, students in the 8th grade are given an opportunity to visit Nanaimo for an intensive, 12-day English language and interpersonal communication program. During this custom-designed curriculum the Tamagawa Nanaimo facility becomes an "English Only Zone" where students are challenged to demonstrate real-life skills in an all English environment.
During the day the students are off-site frequently, participating in rock climbing, canoeing, hiking and an overnight sea kayaking excursion to a local provincial marine park.
